Monitors expenditures for compliance with UH and Federal guidelines. Assists Principal Investigator (PI) in the administration of project's scientific, technical, or administrative efforts. Participates in meetings and workshops with faculty and staff. Manages processes for annual planning and budgeting and submission of periodic and annual financial and technical reports.  Fiscal responsibilities include: maintaining revolving fund account records, budgeting for staff support, purchasing of research equipment and supplies, and invoicing University and Non-University clients for services.

    DUTIES:  Supports requirements analysis, applications design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance at the PDC.   The software solutions may range from Internet programming to the development of client/server applications, integration and deployment of applications, and machine and user interface designs using various technologies.  Responsible for source code control using Concurrent Versions Systems (CVS), or similar tools, technical documentation (including design and functional specs).  Participates in design review, code reviews, and troubleshooting.  Provides status to the Software Development Lead on regular basis.

    PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:

    EDUCATION:  Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Computer Science or Math or a related engineering field, Science or equivalent experience and training and ability to demonstrate competence to perform job duties.

    EXPERIENCE:  Three to five (3-5) years of experience in software engineering, application development, and integration. Programming experience in JAVA within an enterprise environment. 

    ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS:  Must have good working knowledge of RDBMS (such as Oracle), ODBC/JDBC, JSP, JavaScript, HTML, XML/SOAP (or other open interface protocols), Ant, and JUnit.  Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS).  Familiar with software configuration management.  Must be well acquainted with principles of object oriented programming, J2EE development process, testing, software lifecycle, and high-level understanding of configuration control, database design and implementation. Must have good writing skills.  Fluent in object-oriented design and programming with demonstrated expertise in Java and related environments.

    SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS: Strong knowledge of Windows environment, the TCP/IP protocol, Integrated Development Environment (IDEs), and GIS (such as ESRI’s ArcIMS map services, viewers, and Java connector along with ArcSDE views) are strong pluses.  Knowledge of GIS, particularly ESRI products, and also scripting language such as various UNIX and NT shells, Perl, Python etc. are pluses.
