The Hawai'i Geographic Information Coordinating Council (HIGICC) is a private non-profit 501(c)(3) organization consisting of members of Hawai'i's geospatial community. Our goal is to provide coordination of geospatial activities among a wide range of users in order to avoid duplication of effort, promote data sharing, and maintain data standards throughout the state.

    The Mark Lierman Memorial Scholarship Awards are two $1,000 scholarships that recognize deserving students who have demonstrated an appreciation for and understanding of geospatial data and  geographic information systems (GIS). The deadline for applications has passed. The Scholarship Committee is reviewing the applications that were received and will pass on its recommendations to the Board in the next few weeks. This year's criteria can be viewed and downloaded here:

    New versions of Hawaii Island and Oahu were released by the USGS in December 2011. The new versions contain updates to GNIS names and IDs.

    The datasets are available for download in geographic coordinates at the National Hydrography Dataset’s Pre-Staged Subregions ftp site:

    ftp://nhdftp.usgs.gov/DataSets/Staged/SubRegions/PersonalGDB/HighResolution

    Reprojected datasets in UTMzone 4N are available from the Hawaii State GIS Program web site (http://hawaii.gov/dbedt/gis). Please contact Malie Beach-Smith (malie.beach-smith [at] doh.hawaii.gov) for assistance in obtaining reprojected datasets in Albers, State Plane, or others, or for comments and questions.

    Hawaii Pacific GIS Conference March 5-7, 2012

    HIGICC, the Hawaii State GIS Program and the Hawaii Coastal Zone Management Program jointly sponsored the Hawaii Pacific GIS Conference which was held March 5-7, 2012 at the Hawaii Convention Center in Honolulu, Hawaii.
