    Key Role:
    Leverage experience with geography, cartography, and GIS, including ArcGIS applications and with creating shapefiles, geo-databases, and features. Apply knowledge of digital cartography, image processing, GIS, geospatial production techniques, and digital data formats and use geographic names information from the GNDB. Apply knowledge of geospatial analysis software suites, including GIS commercial software packages, such as ArcGIS, ERDAS, and SocetSet and common office software, such as spreadsheets and word processing used by the client to accomplish its mission. Leverage experience with research information gathering for primary legal documents that pertain to the delimitation, demarcation, and maintenance of the boundary, including textual descriptions, coordinate lists, reports, and accompanying maps, native maps, secondary source maps, and historic maps used for extraction and comparison, and mapping imagery for stereo and mono extraction at various resolutions using digital terrain elevation data sets. Apply knowledge of several client products, including Controlled Image Base (CIB1), Topographic Line Maps (TLMs), Digital Terrain Elevation Data (DTED), Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM), and National Technical Means (NTM) in boundary recovery processes, such as data retrieval and storage.

    Duties: 
    - Assist and support MFP DPRI in manipulating and analyzing GIS data assurance in use of topology rules and attributes, format manipulation, geo-referencing. 
    - Compile, attribute, edit, and maintain GIS data in geographic and operational databases and their associated documentation. 
    - Develop and utilize queries and other GIS tools to quality control and analyze spatial data, assist in decision-making, generate map products, and to ensure data quality. 
    - Research and implement database processes to integrate complex geospatial databases from sources. 
    - Communicate issues and errors to constituents in meaningful ways to correct and enhance data quality, this includes technical support and training of entry level GIS users. 
    - Responsible for responding to technical questions from GIS users and resolve problems; refers and discusses complex problems with supervisor or other designated contacts as appropriate. 
    - Ensure that GIS data and data processing procedures adhere to standards, policies, and other guidelines.

    Job Description: Perform geospatial and nongeospatial tasks as a GIS Technician working with a GIS Analyst and other GIS technicians in a team setting. GIS projects will include development of GIS layers, loading and editing GIS data, performing basic mapping and metadata authoring. Field work at various locations will also be required using a Trimble mapping grade GPS. The data and photos gathered will be integrated into various products in support of GIS development. Will develop geospatial products and provide consolidated database and custom reports. Complete assigned tasks using GIS software packages and other database software and other duties as assigned.

    Requirements:

    This is an entry level position with development potential. The ideal candidate will be a team player, good listener, quick learner, and motivated to learn.

    Candidate must be proficient with Microsoft Office and have some experience using ArcGIS products. Other geospatial software used in this office includes SDSFIE tools, ERDAS Imagine, Trimble GPS software, and Adobe Photoshop.

    Must have good communications and interpersonal skills, both oral and written, to interface with managers, engineers, scientists and other personnel.

    Maui County Department of Planning is hiring an entry level GIS Analyst.

    The person selected will be part of a 4 member team, based in the Long Range Planning division, providing GIS assistance to the entire Department of Planning.  Development, maintenance, utilization and mapping of land use geodatabases will be the primary activities; but the range of information of relevance to the Planning Department is broad, and therefore subject matter and task assignments will be varied.
